Community Consultation
Thanks to a grant from the Cultural Pipeline Fund via Sheffield City Council and the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority, Concerteenies has reached out to the communities with which it engages to learn how the charity can effectively generate excitement about (and a greater understanding of) the importance of music and creativity in the early years. The findings of these consultations will shape Concerteenies’ future plans. The full report of this project, which was prepared by Professor Karen Burland, can be read here.
Concerteenies designed questionnaires for participants of the charity’s activities in 2024 and 2025, which included:
Music sessions in Sheffield Children’s Hospital’s neonatal wards, in partnership with art+
Musical Stories concerts for 3-7 year-olds in education, cultural and community settings across the UK
Concerteenies for Babies in partnership with Sheffield Family Hubs and funded by Sheffield Creative Communities
Concerts for 0-5 year-olds at Cambridge Street Collective
The findings of these surveys can be viewed below.
As part of an Arts Council England-funded project, Embedding Concerteenies Across South Yorkshire, the charity has also mapped musical opportunities for early-years children and their communities. This report can be viewed here.
Spoken word artist, Sile Sebanda, attended Concerteenies for Babies, free music sessions produced in partnership with Sheffield Family Hubs. Her observations of the babies and the adults enjoying the music and conversation inspired this poem about children’s first live musical experiences. Observations and feedback from adult participants in these sessions are also in the linked playlist below.
This film captures magical moments during Concerteenies for Babies (2024-2025). Notice how there’s a two way interaction between adults and their children and the musicians.
