Sensory Concerts - Kate Griffin

  • Site Gallery 1Brown Street Sheffield, England, S1 2BS United Kingdom (map)

Concerteenies is thrilled to present Sensory Concerts for 0-3 year-olds and their grown-ups, as part of Site Gallery's Wishful Thinking project.

Listen to high-quality live music and take part in engaging, tactile experiences in a calm, welcoming environment with buggy access, nappy changing facilities, and breastfeeding is welcome.

Kate Griffin is a clawhammer banjo player, singer and composer emerging on the UK folk and world scene. Described as “one of the top banjo players in the country” by virtuoso Dan Walsh, her innovative banjo style combines traditional UK and American folk, while also placing the banjo in a contemporary setting. In 2018 Kate formed award-winning global folk collective MISHRA, alongside musical partner Ford Collier, with their debut album released in autumn 2019. As of 2021 she also performs as part of the critically acclaimed transatlantic neo-folk band THE MAGPIES.

Wishful Thinking explores how gallery spaces can best serve us as a space for reflection, immersion and rest.

Designed by Society of Explorers, Site Gallery’s arts collective of young people aged 14 – 19, Wishful Thinking comes from the expression of the same name, and how young people feel their wants and desires can wrongly be dismissed as implausible.

Through a series of workshops, the Explorers investigated their hopes for a space that feels like a sanctuary for the mind and spirit in the midst of a chaotic world – as one of the group stated “to zoom out and slow down the swirling and worries in my brain”.
