Musical Stories at Kelham Island Museum: The Dog Who Could Dig | 11:45 - Accessible Concert

  • Kelham Island Museum Alma Street Sheffield, England, S3 8SA United Kingdom (map)

Free creative activities will run for 30 minutes before this performance.

Energetic storytelling, bubbles and music!

Join narrator Polly Ives with percussionist Matthew Brett on the marimba for a vibrant reimagining of popular book The Dog Who Could Dig, for children aged 0-7 (siblings welcome).

"Digger is a very determined dog. He has started looking for the bone that he buried and he just won't stop digging. Deeper and deeper he goes, unearthing all sorts of extraordinary things - an old shoe, a coal-miner, and even an underground train. But he's also getting hungrier and hungrier - will Digger ever find something to chew on for his dinner?"

We want our concerts to be accessible to all young children, including those with additional needs. So, whether your child is neurodiverse, has a hearing or visual impairment, physical or learning disabilities (diagnosed or not), we create a relaxed and supportive environment at these Concerteenies events. We have worked with SEND music specialists and teachers to make our Musical Stories inclusive and fun. See below for more info.

With original music composed by Paul Rissmann, Concerteenies Musical Stories concerts are a lively mix of stories, image projection and audience participation. They are centred around stunning performances from professional musicians in a relaxed environment. This concert also features extracts from Yellow After the Rain by Mitchell Peters, A Little Prayer by Evelyn Glennie and an improvisation based on Chatterbox by Chad Floyd.

Polly Ives is one of the UK’s leading music educationalists with a varied portfolio as a concert presenter, narrator, promoter, workshop leader, trainer and cellist. She regularly produces and presents children’s concerts alongside many highly renowned orchestras, ensembles and soloists (including London Philharmonic Orchestra, London Mozart Players and Ensemble 360) and with the leading arts organisations and venues in the UK (including the Southbank Centre, Wigmore Hall, Sheffield Theatres and Royal Opera House). She has worked with CBeebies, BBC Radio 3 and Scala Radio.

The Dog Who Could Dig is by Jonathan Long and Korky Paul.
