Concerteenies for Babies: James Lyons & Polly Ives

  • Highfield Trinity Methodist Church 2 Highfield Place Sheffield, England, S2 4UR United Kingdom (map)

Concerteenies for Babies is designed to relax and reinvigorate parents/carers and create special bonding moments with their babies through specially tailored musical and sensory activities. Listen to high-quality live music in a calm, welcoming environment with buggy access, nappy changing facilities, cups of tea or coffee and breastfeeding is welcome. This Youth Music-funded project (2023-2024) enables us to work with four new community groups across the city and aims to interact with new, diverse and often underserved communities. This series is in partnership with Sheffield City Council's Sharrow Family Hub.

Sheffield’s Family Hub works with a wide range of partners who all work together to provide help and support to families. They offer support for families such as preparing for a new baby, Parent/Carer baby and toddler groups, 1:1 support, access to a variety of short courses and links to other support services in your local community such as housing and benefit advice.

There will be a University of Leeds researcher present at this concert. Together we are investigating the impact of our events so they will observe throughout the concert and we will ask for your feedback after sessions. Participation in the research is not compulsory. Please speak to a member of staff if you do not want to be included.

You may recognise James Lyons from performing alongside The Dusterlings on CBeebies’ Justin’s House! James is a multi-instrumentalist, beatboxer and rapper based in Liverpool. He has been an active musician and workshop leader for over 20 years, bringing his own brand of positive hip-hop and instrument beatboxing to stages and festivals all across the UK and beyond. His performances incorporate live looping, improvisation and interactive musical activities suitable for all ages.

All of Polly’s work is centred around a lifelong love of playing music alongside other people. Since the age of 4, she has played musical instruments and sung alongside family and friends. Polly has performed with Simply Strings Trio for around 15 years at weddings, corporate events, gigs, care homes and children’s concerts. She has also performed with Escafeld String Quartet, Woodfield String Quartet and ELO Experience. She performed on the BBC's TV special Billionaire Boy by David Walliams alongside Bryn Terfel, and on Channel 5’s Celebrity Carols at Christmas alongside Aled Jones and Military Wives. She has performed with the English Philharmonic Orchestra, South Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra and alongside Richard Hawley, Julian Jones and Vanessa Mae.
