Concerteenies for Babies: Deepa Shakthi and Ford Collier

  • Zest Centre Sports Hall 18 Upperthorpe Sheffield, England, S6 3NA United Kingdom (map)

PLEASE NOTE: This concert is for residents of S5, S6, S10, S33, S35 and S36.

This block of concerts is a repeat of those recently held at Greentop Circus Centre.

Concerteenies for Babies is designed to relax and reinvigorate parents and carers and create special bonding moments with their pre-crawling babies through specially tailored musical and sensory activities. Listen to high-quality live music in a calm, welcoming environment with buggy access, nappy changing facilities, cups of tea or coffee and breastfeeding is welcome. This Youth Music-funded project (2023-2024) enables us to work with four new community groups across the city and aims to interact with new, diverse and often underserved communities. This series is in partnership with Zest Centre.

Over 30 years of studying Indian music and working across genres under the banner of ‘world music’, Deepa Shakthi has forged an international reputation as a vocalist and composer, receiving awards and acclaim in the UK and India. She has worked with artists including Kuljit Bhamra and is currently touring with Opera North’s production of Orpheus.

Ford Collier is a composer, multi-instrumentalist, and performer of folk music who specialises in weaving influences from diverse traditions into his music. Since starting his music career in his teens, he has performed at festivals including Glastonbury, regularly toured the UK, released four studio albums with his two bands, The Drystones and Mishra, and received a nomination for the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk award.

INFO FOR ON THE DAY

Each concert has the following structure:

  • 10:00 - doors open for the audience, please don't worry if you are running late! This is a good time for a quick nappy change if you need to.

  • 10:15-11:00 - concert

  • 11:00-11:30 - stay and play, chat and have a cuppa

If you are driving to the concert, we recommend using the car park on Shipton Street. Concerts are held in the sports hall, not the library.

Free hot drinks are available at these events. Feel free to bring your own blanket and pillow.

Please book a ticket for all adults who will be attending. You do not need to book a ticket for your child. There's no need to print your tickets, just show your QR code on the door or give your name.

This venue is accessible for buggies and wheelchairs. Please contact us with any accessibility queries. Buggies can be left in the entrance area and we encourage you to put coats and bags to the side of the room.

There will be a University of Leeds researcher present at this concert. Together we are investigating the impact of our events so they will observe throughout the concert and we will ask for your feedback after sessions. Participation in the research is not compulsory. Please speak to a member of staff if you do not want to be included.
